Depression and the PUA Community

I’ve realized that a lot of guys in the pick up community suffer from depression.

Some guys have it more severe than others, but it almost feels like everyone i’ve met in the community has some sort of mental imbalance. Some guys have delusional confidence, and think they are master pick up artists when they’ve realistically never opened a set in their lives. Or worse, guys that think they are pick up gods when they really just creep girls, and other guys out.

But, those arn’t the guys i’m talking about today. I want to address the guys that have some sort of depression…because I myself, suffer sometimes as well. Personally, I can never just be content, I always need to be doing something, or working towards something to be happy. It has it’s usefulnesses as well, it gives me hard core motivation to get things done, and forces me to want to learn and master new tasks. But sometimes, I wish I could just be happy doing nothing. But is that what “normal” is? Being content not achiving greatness? Or is wanting to strive to be better and have more actually the real norm?

I do think it’s unhealthy to base our happiness and self worth on external factors, like when the last time we got laid, or how good we are at pick up. But I do think it’s perfectly healthy if not a gift, to not be easily satisfied, so that we have the drive for greatness.

Most, if not every pick up instructor and guru I’ve met….and I’ve met and hung out with most guys in the community that are well known, and i’ve noticed that none of them are normal. But I think that is what makes them great. Some examples:

Adam Lyons - Can be ultra extremely warm if he likes you, and then ultra extremely cold if you do something to piss him off. Which is not like normal people who are generally luke warm, and half cold. Pros: Can make you feel like your heart is melting even when you first met him, Cons: Can break your heart even faster

Asian Playboy “JT” - Gets into full on hardcore modes when he’s on, he’s on, and nothing gets in his way. Pros: Unstoppable confidence and drive Cons: Can be too hardcore almost dangerous

Sinn - Studies and stalks pick up material more than anyone in the community and has an instainable desire to know the newest and best theories and methods that come out. In fact, I bet you he is reading this post right now. Pros: Extremely knowledgable, always on the cutting edge of technology Cons: Can become too obsessed and entrenched

Mystery - Thinks the entire world is a game that he needs can control, and he needs to always be the center of attention. Pros: Amazing at game, great at self-analyzing and control Cons: Hard to have a normal conversation with, and turn off the game

And there are others too, Vince Kelvin, Juggler, Matador, Ross Jeffries, none of these guys are “normal” but I really don’t think it’s a bad thing. Us guys in the pick up community, are gifted in a sense. A lot of us needed to find the community to realize that it’s okay not to be like every other person in the world that is perfectly content being herd like sheep, as we are wolves amongst them.
