When I first met Daniel Rose a few years ago, the Author of the Sex God Method, he mentioned that he does Jiu-Jitsu and showed me some photos of him rolling around with other guys in what looked to me as karate gi’s. I had been in the peak of my pick up career at the time and thought martial arts were kind of gay, especially if you’re rolling around with a guy on the ground. Little did I know, it’s now a big part of my life and I wish I would have started sooner.
I think it all started with a program I took when I was 11, Hapkito Karate. Summer Special $99 for six weeks with a free uniform. I was sold. I begged my mom to let me join and was excited to get my white belt.
Six weeks later, I hadn’t learned anything besides a stupid “dance” they made me memorize in which I could get a higher belt if I learned the 58 step version of it. I vowed that all forms of Martial Arts were stupid and that only non-asians even practiced it anymore.
What I learned from PUA about Martial Arts:
The reason why a lot of Martial Arts schools were able to stay in business for so long without any real skill or real world benefit was because the UFC didn’t exist at the time and people could only argue which was better, Kung Fu, Karate, Judo, or Kickboxing. But now, they have to prove themselves.
With pick up, it’s the same thing. Talking trash on the internet or writing an ebook, or even posting pictures and videos of your conquests doesn’t make you respected in the PUA Community. People gain respect from students and potential students by demonstrating their skill in field during bootcamps.
PUA Brotherhood vs. Jiu-Jitsu Brotherhood
As much fun as I’ve had in pick up, meeting other guys to go out sarging with, starting a lair, and having some crazy adventures as a pick up artist, thinking back, how many of these other PUA Brothers really had my back? How many guys do I know from pick up would protect me from harm, how many of them truly even want to see me happy? How many of them would I invite to my wedding, or even my birthday party and meet my real world friends and my family.

On the cover is a good friend of mine, Nicolas Gregoriades founder of the Jiu-Jitsu Brotherhood, who I met in Thailand while training at Tiger Muay Thai / MMA Phuket. And because of the nature of the sport where you physically compete with each other, there is no bullshit, from the first day you meet each other, you know each other’s strength’s and weaknesses. But the best part is, it doesn’t matter. You want to see each other improve and would never hold each other back.
Some of my closest friends in the pick up community, have tried to hold me back from happiness many many times. It seems that every time I meet a girl that I could really be happy with, they do whatever they can to sabotage it or even straight up cock block me. Maybe it’s because they want me to stay in the game? Maybe they don’t want to see me succeed while they’re not. But either way, if I had to choose, I’d choose real friends.
Just something to think about.
Warm Regards,
Johnny Wolf

Man you should totally go to brazil if you are intrested in Jiu jitsu! I tell you these beacuse they are like fight nuts, but really cool and hard people at the same time. There you can practice your muay thai and of course the jiu jitsu. I recommend rio de janeiro. Reeally nice place for vacations but is a little dangerous like the favela and that kind of things. But at least the women would be in their best shape on the beach!
Hey Johnny,
I remembered what you said a while back about Krav Maga, and I tried it out, and now I’m hooked. It helped me to get into the best shape of my life! I wrote a post on Fitness in which I mention it. Anyway, thanks, my man.
Play on, David.
Man, that’s deep! It’s awesome that you’re being real man. You’re a very genuine guy and I noticed that it’s a very rare find in the community. Just saw your presentation on 09 summit and you did come from a place of genuineness when you talked about your life.
All the best to you and yours
