Why MOST People Fail Miserably with Gym Memberships and Pick Up Material
September 9th, 2008I went shopping for a new Gym Membership the otherday, and realized something.
Gyms make money by counting on most people to NOT USE them to its fullest potential. They set it up so they give you all the equipment, classes, knowledge, and facilities needed to get in shape, but the one thing they don’t do is call you when you don’t use it. This is what I call accountability.
A basic gym membership is extremely cheap and under priced compared to how much it’s actually worth. (Consider how much it would cost you an even 100 friends to rent a building of that size, buy all the equipment, hire staff, pay utilities, hire instructors for free classes, and maintain it, it would be a lot more than $59 a month)
Facts:
90% of people that sign up for gym memberships don’t use them more than a few times a year.
All gyms can get you in shape if you dedicate yourself and just do it.
Gyms will lose money if everyone that signs up for a membership actually showed up and used it.
So what does this have to do with pick up?
90% of people that study pick up either for free on the internet, or buy a product don’t use it to it’s fullest advantage.
Almost all pick up material out there can get you results with women if you use it correctly and consistently, just like how any piece of exercise equipment can get you in shape.
Most pick up gurus and companies give away a ton of free or sell very low cost material that can get you results if actually used to it to its fullest potential.
Bootcamps and repeat customers wouldn’t be needed if everyone had the motivation, dedication and more importantly self-accountability it takes to become good with women.
Example: You can buy print or eBooks for a very low price, which has tons of information in them, sometimes even more information that would be covered in a three day bootcamp. Then there’s all the different blogs, free content on websites, intro seminars, etc etc that give away a lot of content for free or for a price that is significantly less than what it is worth.
The real reason why gurus and pick up companies don’t mind giving away this information is they know that most people won’t use it to it’s fullest potential. It’s the same reason why a lot of gurus say they don’t care about the people that pirate their products off of a torrent site, they know that those people who don’t pay for it, won’t really benefit from it anyways.
Brad P’s did a fascinating study on the extremely high number of virgins on a popular pick up pirating site and why guys that pirate pick up material don’t ever get laid, even though they have access to every product in the world.
Why Bootcamps Exist and Why they Work
There are a couple reasons why bootcamps get consistent results. First, just the fact that you sign up for the bootcamp, you are admitting to yourself that you need help, and that there is someone that is more knowledgeable out there that can help you. This leaves your Ego checked at the door, which is a huge obstical for most guys.
Second, is the investment. When you invest three days of your life, and thousands of dollars, you are making a commitment to better yourself and you will do whatever is possible to make sure you get your moneys worth by improving.
Third, you have fellow students that are just as committed as you are that you can learn and grown along side with. You look at them and realize that you’re not alone, and others have just as much difficultly, if not more with women. If they can do it, you can do it.
Fourth, you can’t give yourself excuses because your instructor won’t let you. If you have a good instructor, he will truly care about you and will want to see you reach your potential, so there is no way in hell he’s going to let you bitch out and give excuses. He’ll push you to your limits and break you if he has to. Then he’ll rebuild you stronger than ever.
Fifth, you will learn an entire structure from beginning to end. This is something that guys have a really hard time piecing together on their own, is a complete structure. When you read or watch material, they are for specific parts of pick up, example, amogging, frame control, openers, negs, etc. But its really difficult for someone to take all of it and put it into a proper A-Z structure on their own.
Sixth, instructors who have taught a lot of bootcamps (20+) have enough experience to know what they can cut out and what is actually valuable. There is sooo much information out there, but most of it isn’t immediately useful. A good instructor can help you cut out what doesn’t get you lair.
Seventh, top instructors are innovative. Which means, you are learning new fresh material that you can’t find anywhere online or in a book. Even though gurus post articles, tactics and techniques, they normally only share the latest stuff with their bootcamp students. By the time they decide to release it to the public, it’s usually old and dated.
Eighth, accountability. During bootcamp you get specific missions and goals that you must complete. When you’re doing it on your own, you can cheat yourself by telling yourself you understand, without truly understanding it through practice.
Ninth, instructors will point out and correct little things that are seriously holding you back, such as your body language, coming out too needy or desperate, having an ego, or other things that are almost impossible for you to self-correct.
Tenth, bootcamps give you individual tailor made help. Even though there is a predetermined lecture, a good instructor will always personalize it to what you need most, and will spend more time in class and in field to help you with those needs.
Recap:
Yes, you can do it on your own.
If you have the self-motivation, self-dicipline, work ethics, and can instill accountability in yourself, you can do it on your own.
There is plenty of free, or low cost information out there, and most of it works, if you know how to filter and make sense of it all.
However, if you had all of the above requirements, you would most likely be a natural and wouldn’t need pick up in the first place.
Knowing this, you can either break the norm and do it on your own, or you can start saving up for a bootcamp.
Either way, best of luck to you in your journey, we are lucky to have a community to support us.
So what did I do about my gym membership?
I signed up for Gold’s Gym, which is well structured, professional, established, and the clients there have great results, that I can see, since everyone there is ripped and buff, which gives me motivation.
And for accountability, I track my results on my Nintendo Wii fit, which measures weight and BMI and keeps a graph, and I hired a personal trainer who filters all the information out there for me, so I don’t have to read a ton of contradictory stuff myself and figure it out, he can just tell me what to do and how to do it correctly.
So what did I do about pick up?
I read every thing I could find. I watched every pick up dvd I could get my hands on. I spent six months wasting my time on mASF. I got really active on my local lair. I found a couple of wings and went sarging three times a week. I got pretty decent on my own. Then I took a bootcamp in Febuary of 2006, had a really amazing instructor and experience, and finally all the pieces of the puzzle started coming together.
Warm Regards,
